About Owen Brooks

Owen Brooks is the editor of RootRafter. He is an engineer by training, with a BSc in Electrical Engineering and an MSc in Engineering Management, and spent about 20 years in the telecommunications industry coordinating engineers and project teams on large technical rollouts.

Owen looks at every home and garden problem like an engineer: understand how the system works, find the real cause, then fix it in clear, ordered steps. He covers gardening and plants, home repairs (with a special interest in electrical safety), pests and mold, and cleaning and laundry.

How We Write and Check Our Guides

  1. Start with the real question. We look at what people actually search for and the problems they describe in gardening and home-repair forums, so each guide answers the questions readers really have.
  2. Check the facts against trusted sources. We rely on university extension services, botanic gardens, government agencies, manufacturer manuals and published safety codes. When experts disagree, we say so and show both views.
  3. Name our sources. Our guides say where key facts come from, so you can check them yourself.
  4. Write it simply. Plain English, clear steps and quick answers at the top, so you can get the job done.
  5. Be clear about safety. For electrical, gas, structural or health-related jobs, we tell you when to stop and call a licensed professional.
  6. Keep guides up to date. If you spot a mistake or something has changed, tell us and we’ll review it.
